Yanni Hufnagel is one of the most talented assistant basketball coaches at present. His secret to becoming a top young assistant coach is his pure dedication to the profession. He is a great orator and has unbelievable interpersonal skills. If he is required speak to more than one person at a go, he will do that effectively.

 

He is one energetic 31- year old assistant coach who is mad about the art of recruiting. His latest job was at the University of California after his amazing stints at Oklahoma, Harvard, and Vanderbilt.

 

Yanni Hufnagel’s childhood wish of running a dream starting line-up for a basketball team became true through lots of research and study and most importantly because of the passion he holds for the game. When he was 16, he was involved in the post-match analysis at a local broadcast station. Since then, People knew then that he was a prodigy as a 16-year-old couldn’t have possibly given such an accurate review on a basketball game.

 

After Yanni Hufnagel’s brief stint at Cornell as a student manager, he completely committed to making this his career and moved to Oklahoma when he was 23 years old. Under the guidance of Jeff Capel, he spent two seasons and excelled as a graduate assistant, and also worked with Blake Griffin, the upcoming NBA superstar.

 

Yanni Hufnagel spent four years at Harvard under the supervision of Tommy Amaker. This is where he gained first-hand experience in coaching and recruiting. His attempts to build strong relationships with student-athletes from the West Coast. He was so good at his work that he convinced Wesley Saunder, a top recruit, from L.A. to the Ivy League.

 

Yanni Hufnagel identified Iona Prep senior Matt Ryan as an upcoming talent. Ryan recalls how their first phone conversation was when the coach was leaving the supermarket. Matt Ryan committed to Notre Dame this year, but Mr. Hufnagel left a strong impression and also visited Ryan multiple times in school.

 

His next step forward was at Vanderbilt, where he spent last season as an assistant coach and a recruiter. But shortly later he took up the opportunity in the recruiting field in California. He was offered a job by Cuonzo Martin, the current coach of New Golden bears and a former Purdue star. He has been a successful and impactful coach and recruiter who could scout talent in the most uncommon places.
